The Wedding Date (2005) - Dependable Chick Flick

I was dragged to The Wedding Date (2005) at the last minute. I did not expect much. I had heard that the reviews were terrible. I was pleasantly surprised. Shocked, more like it. I actually liked it. This may be the classic chick flick, but it is sweet and well done for what it is.

As we exited out of the theater, I noticed that 90% of the audience was female. There were a couple of men, obvious dates of someone who wanted to see this. I must have heard "Wasn't that ROMANTIC" from at least three different women as we walked out.

I won't bore you with the plot, except to say that it involves your standard issue unlucky-in-love damsel, Debra Messing, seeking out Dermot Dreamboat, um, Mulroney, based on his fabled reputation as a male escort. She needs him to escort her to her sister's wedding in England. It is supposed to be strictly a business arrangement. The usual hilarity and plot complications ensue, but anyone who has seen any of these types of films has to know the ending already. The funniest scene involves a rather off-key rendition of Air Supply's greatest hit song, but I'll let you see the movie without spoiling it.

I liked it. I don't usually like these kinds of films. The intended audience that I was with loved it. May I suggest that this is a great film to see on Valentine's Day?
